You will not see any degradation of the splice, it is a clean to the naked eye as the day it was created.
You "might" see a change in resistance when using a sensitive Ohm meter all depending on how trained you are with an Ohm meter. The last one I did had a whopping 4 Ohm resistance between front and rear sensor going through the splice.
What happens is some kind of galvanic corrosion where two metals don't agree with each other and create a thin layer of corrosion or patina.
Volvo have big problems in certain years with the positive battery cable where the battery terminal is crimped onto the cable. It builds up resistance to the point where you burn your hand if you touch the terminal when the car has been driven with lots of electrical load turned on.
When you cut that crimp open, you will find nothing out of the ordinary and you can see the imprints of the cable strands in the metal of the terminal.
