What I would like to get confirmed from you first is where you are at in the process. Since I have limited time to give advice, I want it to be precise and in a manner that the poster understands it.
Is the engine and cams lined up and are you now installing a brand new belt, tensioner assembly and idler pulleys or are you still trying to line up engine with old belt and broken tensioner?
