Victim: 2002 SAAB 9-5 Arc.
Everyone was correct - the 20mm E-tork that hold on the calipers were a bear-cat to get loose. Thanks for the warning! I actually had a 3/8" drive E-torx and a fairly new defective Craftsman torque wrench I used as a breaker bar. The ratchet assembly in the torque wrench exploded with me prying on it. BTW, this 6 month old torque wrench failed (numbers cannot be read anymore) and only had a 90 day warranty. Don't by Sears torque wrenches. OK, so I used a piece of pipe on a small breaker bar and got the bolts out on both calipers. But now I find the rotors are really stuck. I sprayed penetrating oil around the lug bolt holes and it ran behind the rotor flange as I wanted. I tried to hammer the rotors off to no avail. Tried a breaker bar - NG. Then rigged up a 2-jaw puller but it was damaging the cap on the hub, even though I made a wood block to fit over it. So I found the perfect tool - a slide hammer. Hooked on the edge of the rotor and slid the weight and it popped off no problem. Worked fine for both sides. Removed the calipers (short brake hose needs to be unbolted that goes to caliper) and cleaned them up and painted them black. Installed the pads, cleaned up the hub and mounted the rotors. I used some anti-seize on the hub. I also used it on the caliper bolts. Installed the calipers and the brake hose. Bled the brakes. Installed the wheels.
Here's the tool list:
17 mm socket for wheel lugs.
Floor jack and stands.
20 mm E-torx for caliper bolts.
11 mm combination wrench for the short brake hose to caliper bolt (don't loose the 2 washers).
9 mm combination wrench for bleeder screws.
1 quart of Castrol LMA DOT 4 brake fluid.
Torque wrench.
Permatex anti-seize compound.
Motive power bleeder is a nice item to have.
I used Akebono pads and Brembo rotors. The sad story is it took me most of the day to do just the front brakes. Ouch. I'd go broke if I was doing this for a living. Time now for a Margarita. Ahhh the payoff....
