My wife owned a 1989 900S and a 1996 900S (aka 9-3) before buying a 2003 9-5 Aero sedan. She says the 9-5 drives more like her older 900S which she loved. Based on that, I bought a 2004 9-5 Aero wagon and love it. Very sporty, comfortable and luxurious while being able to haul lumber, fertilizer, etc for the house. I recommend the Aero model if you like performance. I test drove a non-Aero wagon and was underwhelmed after driving my wife's Aero sedan. Our 9-5s have been very reliable and have never stranded us on the road. I also do some of my own simpler maintenance which makes the ownership experience even more enjoyable.
Get a wagon with the rails on top so you can add crossbars to easily haul longer loads like lumber, plywood, ladders, etc.
