So was the hood open and you heard a few seconds of noise ? Years ago I removed the under hood insulation and every so often when I start the car I will hear 1 or maybe 2 secs sec of valve clatter - especially after the car has sat for a few days. I don't worry much about it as I assume the lifters have lost some of their oil and the clatter is very brief.
