A head gasket job has a moderate degree of complexity - as far I know even the best mechanic can make a mistake every so often - nobody's perfect. I've always done all my own work on the family autos, 4 in no and years back used to work on cars for a lot of friends. cars are definately more complex now and even a very minor mistake or oversight can result in a vacuum or oil leak or some sort of issue like rough idle.
I wonder how some mechanics can do the work in the hrs they are alloted by the shop guides, particularily on the rebuild jobs.
