Pull back the rubber "accordion" harness cover from the "L" shaped thing. Look at the wires inside carefully. You may have one or more that are broken. You need to splice in a new section by soldering in a piece of wire and then using shrink tubing to insulate.
I would take out the liner on the back of the trunk and unhook the harness from the clips to give more slack....maybe relocate the clips. I did mine 3 years ago and it is fine. The trunk light would not work.
