If you are starting with an Aero with 225/45-17 tires, your best option for 16 inch snow tires is 205/55-16. They are about .5% different in diameter than the 225/45-17s and you can't get much closer than that. You should also look for something with an XL load rating as there is a lot of weight on the front tires. I use 205/55-16 Nokian WRg2s for winter tires on my 2000 Aero sedan and they work quite well where I live (Seattle area) as we don't get all that much snow here.
By the way, 205/50-16 tires are almost 4% smaller than 225/45-17s.
Brooks.
