You do need to have the marriage performed via Tech II before it works.
I have a 2003 9-5 Arc and installed the changer a number of years back. The CD changer kit included the changer, mounting hardware and instructions. I also needed a separate cable that connected the changer to the cars' wiring harness - it had instructions as well.
Once you get the grey cover panel loosened up, everything is very straight forward to get installed - the cable and mounting bracket go under the grey panel. Button the grey panel back up, and intall the changer. Took about a half hour.
Dealer changed me 1/2 hour labor to hook up the tech II and marry up the units.
