The photo above is the only one I could find after seeing a LaCrosse trunk open today and freaking out. The LaCrosse uses gigantic flocked cardboard buttresses in the trunk to contain the hinge bars and prevent crushing trunk contents upon closing. Unfortunately, these buttresses consume a tremendous amount of trunk space!
Hopefully the 9-5 design is trimmer and wastes less space. Wait and see I guess. I had a GM car trunk years ago that would crush and tear paper grocery bags, crush store purchases, refuse to shut with luggage in the trunk, etc., all because of that stupid hinge design. I got real tired of being forced to carefully arrange everything in the trunk just to clear hinge bars.
Probably hard to understand if you have never had this problem, but it becomnes a serious peeve quickly.
