I would start a war - service manager, dealer manager, owner, SAAB, BBB, local TV station, and keep going. The facts are on your side. First, if the car was not throwing codes, how did they know that the IDM needed replacing? Then they could not even explain what it was. Finally, you should not have to pay for something that you did not authorize and that they still can't explain. I would settle for an apology and to just pay for the part cost of about $225.

Do not give in. I can loan you my wife, who is from the Bronx and loves a good fight like this.

Then run away. Your problem is not with the car, but with the dealer. Find an indy or a better dealer.
