Don't count on it. I had an Alfa 164S making clicking noises from the engine and it drove just fine but the timing belt had slipped and the valves were contacting the pistons. The surprise came after I got it to the dealer and found out I was looking at a complete engine rebuild.
Now I just have to decide if my next car will be the new 9-5 or and Alfa 169, so far the Alfa is ahead on points.
