I agree there are definitely features on our old 2001 9-5SE SC that I prefer over our new (to us) 2006 9-5 SC.
The locking and unlocking horn, and the unlocking of the drivers side only are at the top of my list.
Regardless it is a fantastic car, and believe me, we looked and owned almost every brand.
- VW Jetta,
- Accords and Civics in the past,
- Audi 100 Sedan and 5000 Wagon,
- Porsche (past 944 in 1989), and currently an old '77 911 Targa for fun,
- Volvo 940 Wagon and a S70 T5 Sedan,
- Toyota (our other daily car is a 2010 Prius and by the way the hatchback is great),
- Drove a BMW 520i for a couple of weeks as a rental in Germany,
- Been in several Mercedes,
- Test drove a Ford Fusion last year, and
- Owned a 300ZX Nissan in the past.
So whats left AND SAFE. I commented to my wife the other week the SAAB seats are better than my old Porsche 944. Those were great seats too.
Now for those who own a SportCombi. Other than VW, Volvo, BMW, Audi and Mercedes who offers a wagon.
Now ask yourself (which was key to us) who offers a SAAB engineered hitch designed for the car. Just look at the SAAB accessories.
Then look at the price. Other than VW and maybe Volvo- BMW, Audi and Mercedes are very expensive cars given you add the typical options. We paid 33K for our 2001 9-5 back in the day. Volvo is the closest but have you seen their MPG. We were getting 32MPG the other day driving down to Chicago.
Now I realize Cadillac has the new CTS wagon starting at 39K with 300HP, and Toyota has the Venza. The Toyota Venza is a large car though. We did look at the VW Jetta Wagon TDI recently. I was told to stay away from VW because of reliability issues. A coworker has the Passat Wagon and has been towed several times.
Bottom line the SAAB 9-5 is great, looks sleek in my view, and is a blast to drive.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
