Even with a seatbelt on, a passenger is likely to hit their head on the glass or other object (e.g. a tree) in a severe side impact. Why not provide protection for all occupants, even if I don't have rear passengers that often? I guess when we have rear passengers we'll drive more safely? How is VW able to put side curtain airbags in just about ALL their models without raising their prices? Volvo and Mercedes are using that technology as well.
