As the engineer in charge of glass at a soon-to-close Toyota factory, I can tell you that all automotive glass is TEMPERED, except for the front windshield, which is LAMINATED.
They're both very strong, but if you smash tempered glass, it explodes into a thousand small pieces. Laminated glass will just crack, but still hold together. It takes a helluva lot of work to actually break a windshield into pieces - cutting tools work best for that.
One trick to removing tempered glass -- if you tape up the entire thing, all the tiny pieces will stick to the tape if you accidentally break it; otherwise, you'll be spending the next 4 hours vaccuuming glass out of your interior (maybe more if you have a wagon) if it shatters.
As for the stickers, maybe the best place for them is the interior side of the rear quarter glass?
