The cost of premium is only a dollar or two more per fillup and it is well worth it. The '02 Aero came with semi synthetic oil, and that is what mine has had for 90K, every 5K until recently I switched to 4K intervals. Mine had PCV #2 done under warranty, I just had PCV #6 done (about $310 at the dealer). Sludge is not a common occurrence, if the car has had regular oil changes (every 5K) it should be fine.
