George is preparing a simple estimate today. Thank you both for the reply. SWEDECAR my 9.5 has the original timing chain and head gasket. I change my coolant every two years (with distilled water and Saab coolant) and have used Amsoil 5-40 or Mobil 1 0-40 since it was new. Never had a sludging issue after I installed the Saab kit 4 or so years ago. The underside of my valve cover looks very clean.
I just paid bonuses to my employees for their 2009 performance as a result my cash on hand is horrible this month. So buying a new car is not in the cards until April or so.
Fortunately I can quickly pick up another 9.5 with 80 to 100k on the clock for under $5k. I was planning on giving my old car to my 16 year old daughter so that she would have a safe car to tool around in. Ahhh I guess I will play it by ear. Thank you both for the replies and please check the torque on your lower timing cover bolts. From the sounds of it my failure was extremely rare.
