Started to replace the rear shocks on my '00 LPT Wagon today. The car has 157k on the odometer and felt somewhat loose over the last 10k miles.
I have bought two Monroe 5992 shocks on Amazon.com for $27/each including shippiing - just could not resist them at this price. Anyway, the shocks look way different from the ones that I currently have on my wagon and do not fit at all. However, they do look like all Bilstein and Sachs shocks that I see on various web sites.
So do I have the famous Gary Fisher self-leveling Nivomat shock? The new ones are about $500 each (ouch!). I guess my best option now is to buy the whole Aero suspension kit (400126983, $655 from eEuro). The worst part is that I just dremeled out the old nut - so the shaft is now trunckated and split. I can probably temporarily put it back together with a new nut but it is obviously not ideal.
I was never aware that I had the Gary Fisher edition 9-5 (I bought it used in 2005). Although it is MY2000 silver wagon, and came with a sliding floor and a bike rack. It did not come with the bike or Gary Fisher wheels.
