It all depends on condition + model (is it a 2.3t, an SE (v6) or aero?), but in general, if you can afford a newer one, they tend to be less problematic. 1999 was essentially the first model year. Even getting a late 2001 will avoid a bunch of things. But a 1999 with a good set of records showing a well maintained car with problems solved might be excellent. Do a search on this board - tons of posts re what to look for + definitely get an inspection from someone who knows Saabs! In general, for the 2.3L models, higher mileage is probably a good thing, but expect to see some additional things break at high mileage too (ie in addition to the normal SID, DIC, garret turbo, etc list).
The 9-5 is an outstanding car. And imho, the pre-2002 version is the best looking of the bunch. Good luck!
