Thanks both dmz779q and Gene N. I'm in NY. Yes, the blinking one is the evap system. The car has thrown the PO442 code (Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)) for a few months. I replaced the gas cap hoping this would solve the PO442 code but the code gradually came back.
I noticed a small soft rubber vacuum line to the intake manifold had rotted and broken so I replaced it. No help. Also there's a hard molded plastic line going to the intake manifold with some kind of little round fitting. This is not fitting tightly and I would expect some minor leaking. However the car runs perfectly, and I somewhat doubt that a small vacuum leak is causing the PO442 code, which in turn is causing the EVAP readiness monitor not to set. Anyhow, there's no question the soft rubber lines are deteriorating. These are things you want to replace at one's leisure rather than in a panic where the mechanic runs up a four figure tab.
