1. DIC: When these go, they sometimes give very little warning. Although, the car will run very roughly. When replaced, the fix is immediate...it's simply plug and go.
2. FUEL PUMP: When these go, typically it's sudden death. The quick test...real easy....is to depress the needle in the center of the fitting on the fuel rail (it looks like a valve stem on a bicycle with a cap over it). A strong squirt of fuel should occur; normal pressure is 37-40 psi. If you get nothing and you can't hear the buzzing of the fuel pump when you attempt the car, the fuel pump is the likely culprit. Note: Don't smoke or use a candle for light while you're testing.
3. INTERCOOLER HOSE: If this has popped off or ruptured, the car will be next to impossible to start.
If the cause of your problem is 2 or 3 above you have a couple of choices regarding the DIC.
1. Leave it installed. As I recall you've already gotten 120K miles on the original, so it it just a matter of time before it quits. Running the car with a bad DIC can overheat the catalytic converter.....yes, they really cost.
2. Put your old DIC back in and save the new one as a spare for when..... IMHO...the argument for doing this is weak. The new DIC is a stronger design, post SAAB recall from 2-3 years ago. The old DIC is likely on its last lap of life; they usually go at a very inconvenient time/place.
