Lots of things can leak. Head gaskets can seep a bit, valve cover gasket, timing chain tensioner seal, timing chain cover...
I had a spotty leak with my 1999 LPT after the first oil change I did on it. Came and went, but since the last oil change, no problems. Maybe I hadn't had the filter on tight, or oil had pooled someplace.
As to commonality of parts, other than bulbs, the valve cover gasket, the valve cover and some odd fasteners on the car, there's not a lot that's common between the 9000, designed in the early-mid 80s in conjunction with Lancia, and the 9-5, designed in the mid-late 90s on a GM platform.
Even on the motor. But that's not the 9-5s fault. The majority of the physical changes to the engine block, covers and accessories came about with the NG 900 in 1994, when Saab had to make the engine 110mm shorter to fit. Had you a 1994 or later 9000, there would be slightly more commonality, but then you get into the internal differences, which were fairly extensive going from the B234 in the 9000 and the B235 in the 9-5.
