...that you're taking care of in there. You are blowing the drain lines for the AC evaporator clear of debris, so that they drain the condensate properly. Else, you end up with a nasty smell (at the least...), or a wet carpet someplace (there's another thread about just this going on as I write this) as it overflows, and seeks lower ground.
The filter housing is the lowest part of the whole system, and the HVAC evaporator lives there, too. All sorts of debris that gets in the cabin air inlets eventually ends up down there, plugging up the drain lines, and restricting the airflow through the cabin. Probably every 24 months or so would be a good interval to change it. Particularly if the car stays outdoors, and if you park it near trees. Less frequently, perhaps, if the car is garaged, and not a daily driver.
Get yourself a set of metric 1/4 drive sockets (5mm-13mm usually will cover it), a 1/4 square drive "screwdriver" (so you can attach sockets directly to it), a selection of 1/4 drive extensions, a 1/4 drive ratchet, a 1/4 drive universal joint and/or a 1/4 drive flex extension. The socket, and the selection of extensions and joints makes the job a ton easier.
