Advantage of OEM Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 6 Apr 2010 11:45:46 In Reply to: Do most of you go OEM ($50+) or aftermarket?, Scott H., Tue, 6 Apr 2010 11:08:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The one advantage of an OEM filter is that the foam strip has die-cut holes for the A/C lines. Slip the foam over these lines then slide the filter in beneath the foam.
The aftermarket filters appear designed for non-A/C vehicles and do not have the pre-cut clearance holes making installation a little trickier.
The foam strip is approximately 1-1/2 inches square by 10 inches long and seals the area above the filter to prevent air leaking past. The best solution may be to use aftermarket filters until the old foam strip get so nasty from age that it needs to be replaced, then splurge on an OEM filter with an easy to install new piece of foam.
