I'm the guy that made the spacers!
For the most part I made that statement with my tongue in cheek. Having a few spring adjustments makes a world of sense & would have saved me a bit of work. For me, getting the ride hight correct was worth the effort, the car(a wagon that sees a lot of loads, BTW) tires all wear well now and the car feels right. I probably could have had the front/rear aligned and gotten the same effect, but making spring spacers was easier for me.
But the comment is well grounded in some cases too - I ride/race motorcycles, and the current number of settings for a sport bike (10+ compression/10+ rebound, infinite spring preload separate from ride height for both F + R, and more) goes far beyond what 99% of riders, or even decent racers can sense or put to good use.
