I just replaced mine the other night. It looks a lot worse than it is.
First, get the covers off of the electrical stuff in that area and the big cover on top of the motor.
2. Get the intake pipe out of the way. You will need to disconnect the blow off valve (I think called something else in Saab Land...) to do this. I was able to just swing it out of the way. Be careful of the electrical stuff by the BOV. You will need a 13mm socket on a short extension.
3. disconnect that wiring harness. there is a red slider thing that keeps it tight. Mine was corroded inside bad, so I also took this as a chance to clean it up. 2 10mm nuts hold the connector on the body. Ge the stuff out of the way.
4. my valve was zip tied to something to hold it in place. not sure if this is correct enough. my other cars are similar, so I'll assume so. there is a bracket that holds some wires that attaches to the bottom of the valve. slide it off. This should be easy since you've been dumping coolant on it all week...
5. the vacuum line just pops off. check to make sure its not dry-rotted/crumbling. now you need to get the 3 hose clamps slid back on the hoses. Again, the leaking coolant should have provided enough muck to make them loose. Still a PITA, but they hold the hoses so well i think its worth it.
6. Replace valve. I didn't drain my coolant beforehand, but only had water in the system since I had been topping off the leaky system for about 2 weeks. When I pulled the hoses, a couple quarts came out. YMMV. Get all of your clamps, nuts, etc in place and tight. This is also a good time to clean up anything messy in that part of the motor. In my case, the PO pouring in oil without a funnel gave me about 10 min of work...
Its not a bad job and took me about 30 min total. Make sure that the hose clamp holding the intake pipe is tight.
