They certainly are ramping up the pressures! My '02 Aero Wagon's recommended pressures are 35/32 (225-45-17 94W) which I routinely bump up by 10% (38/35). I just don't get the 41 psi on the '05 Arc unless they're trying to inch across a MPG issue. The 235-45-17s are a size larger than the earlier tires used, so a lower pressure is indicated. So yes, I can see your confusion.
Using 38/35 with 225-45-17XL on my Aero Wagon and 38/38 with 215-55-16XL on my 06 Arc-er-2.0T SCV, I get even wear (when the wagon's rear camber is correct =8-O), good mpg, good enough tire life (the P6s about evaporated in 20,000 miles, but considering their performance, that's a good thing), good ride and handling.
