Cold vs hot pads?

My Akebonos seemed to have less stopping power shortly after they were installed, but improved significantly after they warmed up. After break in, the need for heating up the pads seemed to decrease, or perhaps I was just adjusting to a new normal. Granted, early on, if I'd been cruising on the highway for a couple hours and came to a toll booth it could have been kinda startling.
