We had a 99 when we lived in Montana from 1975-78. Nearby was a hill. In the winter the only cars getting up that hill without chains were VW beetles (rear engines back then), 4WD's and our Saab.
My wife got forced off the road onto the shoulder in our 99. The snow was about 12" deep. Once she calmed down, she put the Saab in gear and drove back onto the highway. Try that in RWD.
When the roads were slick, I used to test traction by getting up to about 20 mph and hitting the brakes hard. The Saab just came to a straight stop, no excitement. With 60% of the weight on the front, it had pretty good traction.
If you believe RWD is any good, try a Volvo 240 in the snow. No go, Volvo. The RWD weight transfer on snow or ice is negligible and a non-issue--if you try to accelerate fast, you'll just spin your tires.
