Today I replaced the batteries and capacitors in the theft alarm using the great instructions found on this site. Just a few tips:
As expected the 10mm fender liner fasteners broke off. I blasted them with PB in hopes of removing the broken bolts with no success. I assume that leaving them as is won't cause a problem or rattles. Comments appreciated.
The alarm housing was glued together so I used a hack saw to cut around the main body. I used a coping saw to cut behind the mounting bracket. The alarm wires are behind the bracket so be careful not to go too deep.
The battery pins are fragile and I had to enlarge the holes slightly with a drill bit on the PC board to get them in all the way. The solder was sucked out of the holes and the solder pads on the PC board. Radio Shack sells a bulb to suck away molten solder. It was about 5 bucks. I already had the iron.
Soldering the capacitors was no problem.
I'm good for another 7 years.
