If you're doing the full case flush protocol, 15-20 miles should be fine (outside the cities, that IS "around the block"...). Maybe more if you're doing it on a really cold day. Enough to get the fluid fully heated, and flowing everywhere. Be sure to drive some with each gear selected manually. These tranny's don't usually go into first unless they really have to. A few seconds in each should suffice.
Don't put in more than you take out. Over full can be as bad as under full. When I did my dearly departed 1999 LPT a few months back, it would take almost exactly three quarts each time.
