2002 9-5 lpt 4...Manual tranny ..130k...popping out of reverse: At about 100k, I had the experience of the car rolling down a slight hill at the grocery store, and partly in to the road. I had left my high school daughter in the passenger seat, and she had quite a ride...no idea what to do!!! She called me on her cell phone while I was in the store a short distance away, and said, " Dad, the car rolled in to the road, and I don't know what to do!" She seemed amazingly calm, probably because her adventure was already over, and she had some time to collect herself. Still, wow!!!
It seems that I had been able to put the car in reverse, and remove the key, but it was not actually all the way in to reverse, and popped out,...thus allowing her to roll over a curb and in to the road on "Mr Toad's wild ride"!!! Missed a tree by inches.
Ever since then, I have been using the emergency brake as a matter of course, however I have experienced this phenomenon at least 10 times since...albeit with me being in the car, and able to stop the roll, and get it fully in to reverse. All with the key having been removed!!!
I had the local shop re-adjust the linkage, but they said it looked fine.
In the time since, this has happened many more times!
Then, last winter, I noticed that when it was 10 degrees F or below, while driving off in the morning, I could not get the gear shift to lock in to 2nd or 4th gear until it was warmed up a bit. Once warmed up, it was fine.
Lately, even when warm out, it has proved more difficult to lock in to 2nd gear, and will sometimes pop out unless I hold it hard for a bit.
I can't find a link to this issue on this site.
I would love to get under the car and turn a few screws to adjust this. That would be cool, but I cant find any instructions.
Anyone ???
