Baling wire, duct tape, and the new 9-5 Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 22 Jul 2010 17:35:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife and I went to the Ann Arbor Art Fair tonight where we saw a new 9-5 Sedan on display in a SAAB tent. I'm sorry, but it is too large for me. Me wife and I decided that when my 2000 9-5 finally needs replacing (it only has 280K miles) the 9-3SS has much stronger appeal to both of us.
While pulling into a parking space in the front yard of some home next to the Fair, for a $5 donaiton to a local Scout Troop, a LOUD rattle and clatter arose from under my 9-5. It continued to rattle on the trip home and when I stuck my head under the car, after shutting it off, I saw the heat shield over the exhaust system had come loose and was resting on the exhaust pipe and hangar bars causing the metallic noise.
Two short pieces of baling wire later the shield is now in its proper position. I need to find some small fender washers and small metric nuts to make a permanent repair. The old washers had worn through the thin sheet metal shield, enlarging the rearmost holes until the shield dropped.
Has anyone else had to repair this shield? What worked best for you?
TIA
