A couple tips from someone who just did this today...
The valve cover is easy to get off. I did have to loosen the banjo bolt on the metal pipe that wraps around the RH (passenger) side of the valve cover, but other then that easy easy.
The torx for the valve cover at T-40. If you don't own a T-40 do yourself a favor and buy the security set.
Inside the valve cover I found two bolts with T-40 security screws. They basically hold the part that make the distributor hole. I got one of them out easy. The other is still there. After I started to ever so slightly strip the head I decided there must be a better way. I remember Swedecar said you can pry the cap out, so what I did was put the handle of the ratchet in from the back side and tap it out. Then I used a socket to tap the new one in place. no need to take out the two T-40 security bolts.
Easy job if you don't spend an hour messing with those screws.
It was obvious that the rubber around the outside of the plug had hardened/shrunk over time. The new one was a tighter fit and I think will stop the drip-drip-drip that I was getting.
it was nice to wrench on the Saab. Something I rarely do. I also put in a new thermostat and ECT today as well as replacing all the coolant. Easy thanks to Saabnet and fixmysaab.com!
Happy Sabbin!
