Thanks Don, this is just what I did.. I also found my bearing was toasted and had spun in the hub.. actually when someone pressed in the new bearing they found this as the outer race was spinning in the hub.. so ended up needing a new hub and bearing X2.. the first pressed in bearing did not come out in one piece as no way to press out without pressure on inner race and destroyed it... so there goes a new $60 bearing.. never simple.. all this on a Sunday where no one with a press was available, so I used a BFH and the old bearing races as a drift tools and got the new bearing hemmered in and then the hub hammered inot the bearing.. worked slick with no damage to bearing.. did it the old fashioned way like I used to on motorcycle wheel bearings.. all went back together and so far, smoooth feeling.
thanks for your tips, if not for the toasted hub and bearing your tips would have made it less than an hour job.. really helped..
