Yes, mine had over 100K miles on it but the talk on the board here made
me decide to address it. Looking on eeuro the cost of the hose that gets
rid of the bypass valve was cheaper than either valve. So I brought that instead.
I think you'll find lots of write-ups on replacing the valve. Replacing the valve is much easier than eliminating it and installing a different
hose (McKay hose on eeuro). The only thing I would highly recommend is
getting hose clamp pliers to get the hose clamps on and off. Also there are some vacuum lines (to the valve and near it) that may be brittle and need to be replaced while your working on the valve. Have some extra vacuum line on hand.
The tight space and some messiness with coolant may put some people off but
I do feel that the valve should be replaced at 100K for peace of mind alone.
