Here's additional info that puts a twist on things:
first off the car is a 2000 9-5 aero 4 cyl, not sure if I originally posted this
So I let the car cool down and called my local indie, he thought stuck thermostat as a possibility and had me hit the thermostat area gently with a pipe. I then started the car and the guage stayed in the safe zone. I drove the car keeping one eye on the guage the whole trip back to my indie, approx 15 miles. I had the heat cranking out the vents for safety (Thanks Anders, I picked up this trick from my 51 pontiac when it ran hot)
On my way to Indie I stopped to see if the fans were working and noticed that they did not come on. When I arrived at indie I tried 2 relays that he pulled out of another 9-5 ( Fan high 1 & fan low) I ran the engine and the guage started to go into the unsafe zone, no fans kicked in.
Here's where it gets interesting, I neglected to mention that I have been having intermitten issue's with some of my dash lights coming on. I would turn the car off and restart and the lights would disappear, but recently the lights stayed on constant ( ABS, Hazard light, TCS, Brake light & service theft alrm ) Needless to say I recently had my ABS module rebuilt about a few weeks ago and everything was working great. Here's what I noticed: while the dash lights stayed on - my remote key would lock and unlock doors but no chirping notification, air conditioning not working (no cold air just warm air)
Ok, so I dug in and started looking at all the fuses under the hood and in the interior of the car. The fuses in the interior were fine, the 2 fan relays mentioned earlier had brown burnt like stains on the exterior of the plastic casing, I removed the 40 amp fuse # 15 which is for the cooling fan, funny but when I reviewed fuses in owners manual it called for a 30 amp fuse here but the plastic cover from the fuse box indicated a 40 amp fuse, go figure, anyway when I removed the 40 amp fuse my Christmas lights on the dash board went out and the one cooling fan worked.
Can anyone tell me what this is all about? I know I threw in some extra's but wanted to give all the info. I once read awhile back that the service theft alarm may have a hand in making the dash lights come on. I must say that my service theft alarm indicator has been rearing its ugly head more in the past few days then ever before. It's late and I had a long day. I thank those who responded earlier and look forward to new diagnosis from this wonderful board!
