Clean versus Dirty........... I am attributing the performance/driveability improvements of my car to it now having a clean air filter, rather than it now having a "performance" air filter. I chose the S&B because I was disappointed with the blinding of the closely spaced pleats in the new style SAAB filter which excluded significant amounts of the paper filtration media from performing its job. I also used an S&B filter previously without incident for 50 to 60 thousand miles.
The S&B site has test results showing dramatic improvements for their filter compared to a standard GM filter on a DuraMax diesel engine. But I caution everyone against assuming these results are applicable to our cars and filters.
Filtration efficacy is one of the greatest liars contests in the engineering world.
