ARGH!! I put in some new cam followers today, and made the mistake of not setting the engine to TDC and misaligned cam sprockets, blah blah blah...
Ok, so in order to fix this I did the following-
1 Turned engine to TDC by turning the crank shaft clockwise since the engine turns this way, by lining up the pulley machine cut right between the two lines on the timing case. I had my roommate hold his thumb over the spark plug hole of #1 and when he said he felt pressure is where I figure it was the compression stroke
2. rotated the exhaust cam until the lines matched up with the triangle pointers. Placed the chain on so that it was taught. Did the same for the inlet cam.
3. When I rotate the engine by hand and I wait for the timing mark on the crank to get right at TDC, the two marks on the cam's both seem right on their marks as well.
When I put on the DIC and crank the starter I get absolutely no sign of engine explosions. I think I have tried both the compression and exhaust stroke, because the firs time I aligned everything I forgot to make sure to test for pressure in cylinder so I just flipped over the cams when at TDC, and neither time did I get the engine going at all.
Please help me with any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong. I am at a loss and it certainly seems like I see a lot on timing belt procedures but not chain. I have my 900se haynes manual, and I think it should be the same procedure?
Any ideas?
