I'm here in Portland too, and weighing the options. I have HP A/S on mine right now and while I can probably get by, I'm considering a set of Performance Winter tires like the Michelin Alpin PA3. Pricey, but I will be driving a lot on clear or wet-only roads and rack up 2000 miles/month. The Blizzak, General and Conti Extreme Winter mentioned are in the more extreme category of Snow and Ice, suitable for the really heavy stuff. But they tend to be worse handling on dry or wet-only roads. Whether to go with that category or the Performance Winter depends on what you plan to do. If you make weekend trips up to Mt Hood buy all means go with the Snow and Ice tires. For my use I will probably go Performance Winter (on separate wheels).
