Possible Turbo Failure?

Several days ago the check engine light came on in my wife's '03 Linear SW with 135K miles. Consequently, the alternator went so we took it to be replaced. Since the alternator died before getting to the shop, the computer lost power and the fault code was erased. After the alternator was replaced, the light came back on so I had the shop read it right away. Turns out it's some sort of O2 sensor that has failed (I didn't get the code # or full description from my mech). That same day the code came back but what I also noticed was the turbo wouldn't spool up all the way. The boost gauge barely gets out of the white zone and that's it. There is a noticeable loss of power as a result, although the car gets down the road fairly well. My question is...is this a sign of turbo failure or perhaps some sort of fail-safe due to the O2 fault? There are no puffs of smoke on start-up and I'm not sure what else to look for. Any thoughts?
