The clutch on my 2000 Gary Fisher (i.e. 2.3l lpt wagon) began to slip when warm, under heavy load and in low gears. The car currently has 180k on the odometer and an original clutch. I understand it needs a new clutch disk and possibly a new pressure plate.

I have a few questions:

1. Is there anything else (other than a worn clutch disc) that may cause the symptoms.

2. Is replacement of the pressure plate (~$200) is recommended and why at this point?

3. Advantages and disadvantages of upgrading to an Aero clutch on a 2.3lpt engine? I understand the Aero clutch can hold more torque at the expense of stiffer pressure plate spring and therefore heavier clutch pedal. It may have also have a beefier and heavier disc - that would make engaging the synchros a bit harder but would probably last longer. Right now I thinking about using the LPT clutch or kit but still not decided. I plan to keep the car only for another 120k or so.

4. What esle is recommended to do when replacing the clutch? Engine rear seal? Transmission seal? Slave cylinder? I am already planning to replace the parking brake cables, drop/inspect/clean the oil pan and install the front aero swaybar (purchased it with a full suspension kit some time ago).

5. What is the typical cost for this job (hours or $$$)?

As a way of saying thanks to this board for all the advice I am getting, below is the link for the latest 2009-04 Saab EPC.
