You can drive it with the alarm disconnected, but you'll get a notice (service theft alarm I think) everytime you start the car. Dealer/Indy with a Tech II can disable the alarm siren entirely if you don't want to pay for the rebuild... although that will cost some labor $. Don't DIY the rebuild; that has not been successful for most for more than 6 months for some reason. The BBA type places have been much better on this.
