9-5 is an awesome touring car. it is a bit larger than the 900/9-3 etc + not surprisingly, feels a bit larger to drive around town... amazing on the highway though! If you liked the feel of tossing a NG900, you need to try a c900... they are tighter + lighter (though getting old - have to be a bit of a die hard to own one these days!)... 9-3 is quicker though... I'd probably look for a well maintained 1999 9-3 (iirc T5 is less sludge prone) or a 2000-2002SE (or Viggen)... but maybe you should ask on the og9-3 board... all of them are cheap... no Saabs hold their values, and the 10+ year old ones have no value left to lose. unless you buy new, that is a good thing!
the real life data (eg hdli) for the 9-3 is significantly better than average, so it's still very safe compared to other cars in spite of a few soso looking crash tests (and 9-3 is much improved over ng900) - in real life it does much better than some cars that got higher scores in standardized crash testing... but 9-5 is still safer...
