Have done about 10 cars with about 5 of them with the fronts also. Used Monroes in all of them. They ride fine and maybe even as good or better then OEM, plus MUCH cheaper. If you are doing the fronts, and year 2001, make sure you get the correct ones, there was a change in the middle of the year.
I even put a set of Monroes in a 2001 Areo and it rieds and performs very well with 235 45 17's and lifts in the back and the front.
I am going to post and exact how to on jjjperformance.110mb.com, but not have got to it yet. Give me an email and may I will write one up.
I would be surprised if your ride height would be OK after the installation. I do recommend new springs for the back though, and yes the OEM springs are not the best, but ok. Also consider a set of used wagon springs in the back. Works great with just a little bit of a stiffer ride.
I don't think that you need the bumper / rubber kit. I have not used them in any and I don't see how they would make a difference.
