I guess this is necessary and perhaps it will get some new 9-5s out there to help revive the brand. When my Aero was in the other day for some service I had time to really check out the new 9-5 in the showroom. It was a fairly basic 2.0 FWD. Great legroom, much nicer interior, decent trunk space...a real nice car. Outward visibility not as good as the previous model -- this one has the trendy "gun slot" side glass. But this thing was in the high $30Ks, and the V-6 AWD I checked out a couple of weeks earlier was nearly $50K.
Purely as cars they may be worth it. But up against A4s, BMWs, Infinitis and Lexi the new Saab is still at a disadvantage -- only because buyers can understandably wonder about the long-term viability of the vendor. $11K off the top helps that somewhat.
