Since your car is outside the VIN range of the 2000 model it is nothing Saab can do in your case.
Since this is also a very special case in where the owner have done upgrades of his own, it is not possible to say what went wrong.
I have never seen a cam sprocket break on any Saab and it was only due to the other poster some years ago I found out about the weak sprockets bulletin in 2000.
I think he tried to get some help from Saab but it was a no go since the car was not within the VIN numbers even though being a 2000 if I remember correctly and that the break looked like how they described it in the bulletin.
