Hi Peter,
The 02 and later 9-5 was stiffened up some - I know because until just recently I had an 01 LPT and 04 Arc sharing the same garage and the difference in ride quality was noticeable, especially after I put Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires on the 01 - they are the softest riding I have found in a 215/55-16 and turned it into a luxury car. You could use a 205/60-16 and the slightly taller sidewall (same overall height) would also add some compliance. That said, there are better riding cars out there. My 2007 9-3 SS actually has a more supple ride qualty than my 9-5 Arc despite being better handling - overall the suspension of the 9-5 is not very sophisticated.
