Unless calipers are leaking, any problems like that described can usually be handled with a good cleaning and lubrication of the sliding surfaces of the caliper. Most all rotors, assuming they're not worn past minimum, can be cut. However, I find that rotors are cheap enough these days, that it's perfectly acceptable to me to just replace them whenever I do pads. The big advantage to a DIY-er is that you can collect all the parts, and do the job on a weekend morning, and be driving by afternoon. There's no taking the rotors to a shop to get cut, then going back to get them, and hoping that you don't now have to buy a new rotor anyway, on a Sunday, when nobody within 250 miles stocks Saab rotors...
From EEuroparts, you're into a max of about $350 in parts, and that's with Saab rotors (Brembos are about half price), new pads, and some caliper hardware, if needed.
Oh - and don't forget the E-TORX socket set from NAPA or your local Sears... (Automotive tool supplier, if you're not in the US...)
And ALSO don't forget grease or anti-seize for the rotor/wheel mating surface. Clean the old surfaces well, then apply the grease/anti-seize compound so that you can more easily remove the wheels next time...
