Sorry but I can't help. Only you can teach us (standard transmission types) about the pitfalls of plastic paddle shifters.
I would go with brand new ones. GM SAAB probably know (knew) it breaks and they updated the way those paddles are made (stronger).
FYI: I heard Mitsubishi has titanium paddle shifters in their cars.
